Viva Babe Madeline is an innovative educator; She fosters creativity to educate and spark change in her community.
Madeline is an elementary educator and teacher mentor in Lawrence, Kansas. She was nominated by one of her student's parents, Annie. Annie says, "I met Madeline when my son Oscar was in her 3rd-grade classroom. It became clear from the very beginning that she was an outstanding educator. She believes strongly in giving children a voice and allowing them to make a change in their community and beyond. Together with Madeline, Oscar's class not only presented to their school board to help make their elementary school more eco-friendly but also held a fundraiser in the community and raised $5,000 to help with disaster relief in Australia when fires ravaged their country. Madeline and I became close, and when the pandemic hit, she helped me keep my children engaged in learning and full of passion for their ideas."
"When it became more and more apparent that our public school system was not doing enough in the way of equity and support for our children most in need, Madeline decided she needed to open her own school to make sure she was reaching as many children as possible. Madeline and I are partnering in this adventure, and we plan on opening Limestone Community School in the fall of 2022, focused on conservation, equity, community service, and the arts. With Madeline's ingenious way of teaching through community-based projects, our students will not only learn their core curriculum standards but see their knowledge help them to be able to affect real change. I have never met anyone as passionate about our children's future, and I have never seen anyone work so tirelessly for what she believes in. With no promise of an actual salary during the first year, she is willing to dedicate her life to helping kids in our community find their voice and a true passion for learning." 🥰
