Lauri J
I truly believe I owe my daughter’s life to Lauri, without whom, I cannot even imagine where we would be.
Lauri “makes the world ridiculously awesome for a huge number of kids and their families!” Lauri is a gift, committed to making a difference in the lives of her students.
Lauri teaches at a school for kids that have learning disabilities in Prides Crossing, Massachusetts. She was nominated by Cindy, a parent of one of her former students. Cindy says, “By the time these kids start attending this special school, they are often at a serious low point in their short lives. These kids have struggled in school, believing they aren't smart because they can't learn to read and write the way most kids do. This takes an enormous toll on their self-esteem and every other aspect of their lives.”
“My daughter's path miraculously crossed with Lauri's when she was in the 5th grade,” Cindy says. ”At this point in my daughter's life, she didn't believe she could ever learn to read. She thought she was dumb, and that school was nothing but a place where she went every day to learn what she COULDN'T do. Lauri tried everything she knew how to help my daughter, and when it didn't work, she would go home and brainstorm ideas for what else might work. She worked with my daughter one-on-one for 2 years, celebrating every tiny success, and earning trust. Lauri ended up teaching my daughter in various subjects for 4 years, until she graduated from that school and went on to high school, where she is currently in 10th grade and still soaring, academically, socially, physically, etc. I truly believe I owe my daughter’s life to Lauri, without whom, I cannot even imagine where we would be.”
“What mother could ever thank another person enough for saving their child; for helping them in ways no one else had been able to,” Cindy says. “She showed my daughter that she was capable of learning anything – truly the gift of education.”
