Kris is the proud owner of BAKED!, a bread and pastry shop in Granbury, Texas, and is the “human embodiment of amazement and inspiration to all who meet her,” her nominator Kelly says. When her kids were grown, she went to culinary school to fulfill her dream of owning a bakery. She started in a renovated horse trailer, traveling to farmers’ markets, and eventually purchased a property, renovated it, and BAKED! was born!
Amid renovations, a pandemic, and opening the retail-side of her shop, she learned she had cancer. Kelly says, “She kept baking and supporting her community. In the last post I saw, her husband was shaving her hair, and now she’s posting photos of herself with cute hats and earrings. She never lets anything stand in her way. She always has a massive smile on her face.”
Not only is she a shining example of resilience, but she also has a passion for empowering women. Kris’ mission aligns with ours in such a serendipitous way. Since starting BAKED!, she’s shared her vision, it is “Not just about the dough”; It’s about connecting with community and elevating women. She has a full staff of women bakers and makes sure they know they are valued and loved.
