Karen M.
When you were born, you cried, and others rejoiced. Live your life in such a manner that when you die, others cry, and you rejoice
Celebrating our newest Consuela Viva Babe, Karen! While volunteering at her daughter Hannah’s office recently, Karen was asked to call before arriving—an unusual request. Little did she know, a heartwarming surprise awaited her. As she walked in, Hannah presented her with the Consuela Viva Babe Award, leaving her stunned!
Hannah had this to say about her incredible mom: “Karen is not your typical ‘Karen’—she’s ridiculously awesome! She lights up every room with her beautiful heart and smile. After 31 years of teaching, she’s retiring—excited for new adventures but heartbroken to leave behind her true passion. My mom is an inspiration, especially to those who know her story. She lost my 15-year-old brother Adam in a tragic accident on Valentine’s Day in 2002. Despite her unimaginable pain, she returned to work less than a week later to bring some normalcy to my life. She’s tough, kind, and one of my favorite people in the world.”
Karen's father has positively influenced her life; he never had a bad day. She describes herself as a happy person on purpose, and she refills her cup by spending time with her family, especially her 11-year-old grandson, chasing after her dogs, and enjoying creative activities like coloring.
One quote that has inspired Karen over the years was given to her by Adam’s teacher. The teacher encouraged each student to select a quote that resonated with the profound impact of the 9/11 tragedy. Adam selected: 'When you were born, you cried, and others rejoiced. Live your life in such a manner that when you die, others cry, and you rejoice.' After he passed, his teacher shared this beautiful quote with her.
Karen spent 31 years as a teacher, helping students discover the joy of reading. As she transitions into retirement, Karen looks forward to spreading more joy, like baking pies and cakes to share with others—a true reflection of her generous spirit.
We are so proud to honor Karen as a Viva Babe! She embodies strength, kindness, and an unwavering joy for life.
