CHRISTINE H

Christine is an RN at the Lubbock State Supported Living Center (LSSLC) in Texas, “home” to approximately two hundred precious individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, many of who are medically fragile. Mitzi, her colleague, and friend nominated Christine for her beautiful unselfish spirit and unconditional love. Many of the residents in LSSLC have no visitors. “That being said, WE become their family. Christine loves these kiddos just like she would her children. You will always see her sharing a smile, holding a hand, giving hugs, talking to them about their day (even if they are nonverbal and unable to speak back to her)”, Mitzi shares.
⠀
Calling on courage and resilience through this uncertain time, the staff of LSSLC is taking every precaution and limiting interactions with the residents. Mitzi shares, “Anything to try to protect them. So many of them would not pull through this if they were to get it. Through it all, we are trying to stay as positive as we can and keep life as normal as possible, whatever that looks like.” Since the outbreak of COVID, Christine has been working from home, and her voice quivers as she mentions how much she “misses her patients.”

We value and appreciate you, Christine! Thank you for leading the way with your kindness, showering love, and compassion for everyone in your presence.
