Diego Uptown Crossbody

Beware of the difference in this design!

I'm revising my four-star review from a few weeks ago. I really wanted to love this. The Uptown bag in general is just a great little bag! And the Diego Natural leather is my favorite. It's so soft and pretty when it patinas! HOWEVER, the style of the DIEGO Uptown is very different from every other material/pattern of the Uptown. The front flap design is completely different. It is just a flat pocket, not a pouch like the other designs, and it is so much smaller. It just will not stay closed, even with only a phone and a key fob, and one or two credit cards. Sadly, I had used this bag for about 2 weeks, and had already treated it with leather conditioner before I realized I couldn't make it work. I was told that due to these things, it was not eligible for a return. I understand that policy, but I'm a little irritated that the differences of this ONE version (Diego) are not explained well on the website. I can't be the only person who assumed that the Uptown design would be the same for any type of leather or material. My other leather Uptown bags aren't like this (they have a front pouch and not a pocket.) If you already have an Uptown, beware that this one will be different! :(

New design, different from the old one! :(

First, let me point out that this is a REDESIGN in the Diego leather! The old style had larger front flap pockets and tucked seams! (Zoom in on the front and compare the seams on the Diego with the seams on any of the canvas versions and you'll see what I mean.) I wasn't expecting this, so I was a little bummed at first. This new design doesn't stay closed with the magnets very well like the old style did. That little surprise aside... I'm still a sucker for the plain Diego leather. I love the aged patina they get over time, with the little marks and scratches from love and wear. As with most untreated leather goods, there is a break in period. I like to apply a thin coat of Kiwi Conditioning Oil cream, let it absorb a few hours, then buff off any residue. Doesn't darken the leather much, but will give some waterproofing and help soften the material. Then with this newer (less spacious!) design, I stuffed it full of paper, wrapped it up with an Ace bandage for a few days and let the leather sort of stretch out and loosen up. This is the only way I've been able to get my phone and a key fob to both fit into this tiny little guy! I wish the old style with the roomier front pouch was still available. :(

I normally love my Consuela, but this one is just eh. The magnets do not actually hold the flaps together even without ANYTHING in the zipper pockets. I don't even have the credit card slots full. Even completely empty you have to force the magnets to hold. If you have anything in the zipper pockets the magnets don't even come close.

Love this Crossbody

Was everything and more! I love the magnetic closure. The card holder is perfect and fits all of my cards. I can put my phone and other necessities in the zipper area. This is will even work as the perfect wallet when I get to purchase the Diego Sling. Over all it’s amazing quality and a beautiful crossbody.
