“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love

Congratulations to our newest Viva Babe, Treger!

She is a ridiculously awesome woman, leader, and designer who saw a gap in support for families leaving shelters—and turned that insight into action. Treger is the founder of Humble Design, a national nonprofit that welcomes families home by furnishing their first place after experiencing homelessness. What began as a single act of kindness to help a friend has blossomed into a movement that supported 548 families nationwide in 2025, bringing the total to 4,203 families since its inception in 2009. Every home is designed with intention and care, changing lives for good.

Recently, Treger visited the Humble Design Detroit warehouse, thinking she was attending a casual team social. Instead, she was greeted with a beautiful surprise celebration, heartfelt gifts, and the Viva Babe Award. She was nominated by her friend Kerri, who has known her for more than 20 years, making the moment especially meaningful. As Treger shared, “This is the coolest award. I feel seen as a human being.”

“Today, we’re helping families across Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, and San Diego,” Treger shared. “These families aren’t a number. We take time to learn their stories and design each home just for them.” With 84% of the families served being single moms, the work goes far beyond furniture. “Seeing the relief on a parent’s face when they walk into their home—that’s why I do what I do. Beauty and design inspire, and they create hope.” Today, 98% of Humble clients remain housed—compared with 50% nationwide who return to homelessness within a year.

Treger describes herself as a “hopeless optimist” who leads with empathy and curiosity. Her favorite reminder comes from Mother Teresa: “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” It’s a mantra she lives by every day—and one that shines through in everything she does.

Treger, we are so grateful for your heart, your leadership, and the countless families you continue to welcome home.
