SANDY W

IT IS UNDER THE GREATEST ADVERSITY THAT THERE EXISTS THE GREATEST POTENTIAL FOR DOING GOOD, BOTH FOR ONESELF AND OTHERS.
Like a butterfly, Viva Babe Sandy is a catalyst for change, new beginnings, and hope.

Sandy lives in San Antonio, Texas, and was nominated by one of her employees, Erin. Erin says, "Sandy founded Thrive Youth Center (T.Y.C.), an LGBTQ+ emergency shelter, in 2015, after experiencing her battle with homelessness, amongst other things. Sandy has created a safe space for youth ages 18-24, experiencing homelessness."

Sandy volunteered with an outreach program in San Antonio, connecting with youth living under bridges and highways. Sandy said she'd find a place for them; she would shelter these young adults – whether in hotel rooms or a rental house. Erin says, "Sandy sticks to the motto, 'no one would be left behind.' T.Y.C. currently houses over fifty youth in our emergency shelter or apartments around the city. She had to gain the trust of the youth, which was difficult given what they had gone through. However, she persevered and did it. T.Y.C. would not be here today if it weren't for Sandy."

"Sandy has the best stories, and coming to work is fun and rewarding," Erin says. "She is one of the most fascinating people you can meet. She inspires me always to do my best, and know you make a difference."

Sandy shares a quote from the Dalia Lama that she loves, "It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others."
