LARA G

I TRY AND LIVE IN COLOR AS MUCH AS I CAN AS I CARE FOR MY HUSBAND WITH A TERMINAL DISEASE. IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS NOW THAT MAKE ME HAPPY.
Lara is a military caregiver and an advocate for veterans with service-connected illnesses. This is not a path that she chose as her life-calling, but rather one she discovered as the wife of Tom, the love of her life, and an Air Force veteran with service-connected ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a terminal disease that destroys motor neurons and patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.⠀

Through this devastating and heartbreaking journey, Lara has taken on learning and advocating for care and services through the VA, not just for Tom, but for all veterans with ALS. As a military caregiver, Lara was selected as an Elizabeth Dole Foundation (EDF) Fellow this February (we love that our Echo Sling photobombed the pic with Lara and Elizabeth Dole!). From Lara’s own words on The Elizabeth Dole Foundation website, “Being a military caregiver to my husband with ALS means doing everything I can to ensure he has a quality of life worth living and letting him know that my love for him is greater than my fear of this disease.” https://hiddenheroes.org/story...⠀

Lara is a pillar of positivity as she continues to spread awareness and fight for funding. A true Viva Babe, Lara also shares, “I try and Live in Color as much as I can as I care for my husband with a terminal disease. It's the little things now that make me happy.”⠀

Lara, we are so in awe of your courage, strength, and tenacity and we admire you for leading the charge and living in the moment. To learn more, please read Lara’s blog, https://tomstroops.com/⠀
