HER IMPACT, ALTHOUGH IT MAY NOT BE KNOWN TO THE WORLD, IS KNOWN TO THOSE AROUND HER AND IS WHAT GIVES LIFE TO A WORLD THAT CAN BE SO UNKIND.
HER IMPACT, ALTHOUGH IT MAY NOT BE KNOWN TO THE WORLD, IS KNOWN TO THOSE AROUND HER AND IS WHAT GIVES LIFE TO A WORLD THAT CAN BE SO UNKIND.
Cindy lives in Chandler, Arizona, and was nominated by her daughter, Aileen. Aileen says, “She was the first person in her immediate family to go to college, leaving her small farming town to attend the University of Arizona. After graduating with her Bachelor’s degree, she dedicated her life to being a stay-at-home Mom, raising three children while also supporting her husband in his career as a Marine. My mom has always been the glue in our family, keeping us together and providing support on her own, as we often lived far away from extended family while I was growing up.”
When the kids got older, Cindy went to work at the US Post Office. Aileen says, “In this job, she touched many lives forming genuine relationships with her customers who shared their lives with her – telling of their joys, sorrows, and milestones. She cared deeply for her co-workers and her customers and continues relationships with many of them. What impresses me the most about my mother is her authenticity, empathy, and flexibility. She is the person who regularly calls elderly friends, consoles those who have lost loved ones (even during the pandemic), and cares for those who are ill. She shows a generosity with her time and a genuineness that is rare.”
Aileen continues, “As a university professor, I have met many people who are highly decorated with accomplishments, who are known to the nation, and for some to the world for their contributions. Still, my mom is the person I would most want to emulate. And her impact, although it may not be known to the world, is known to those around her and is what gives life to a world that can be so unkind. I love her so much and hope that this can be a mechanism to recognize someone who will probably never receive an award for her contributions but deserves the recognition.”
Yes, you are truly deserving! Thank you, Cindy, for being an amazing human!
