ANNIE S

SHE CONTINUES TO BE A STRONG FORCE OF HEALING AND JUSTICE IN OUR COMMUNITY. SHE IS WILDLY DESERVING OF HAVING HER STORY HEARD.
Annie lives in St. Louis, Missouri, and was nominated by her daughter, Kat. Kat says, “In 2008, I became very sick with an eating disorder. [My mom] dropped everything to help me get well. My road to recovery is very intertwined with her dedication to being properly informed about this disease. By the time I had become stable, my mom was an expert on eating disorders and the insurance nuances surrounding them. She knew that many Missourians were not getting the care they deserved, and quite frankly, the care they needed to survive this disease. So, she became a full-time advocate for passing eating disorder legislation. As a citizen advocate, she worked to get the MO Missouri Eating Disorder Council (MO EDC) established into law in 2010. She has been chairing the MO EDC ever since as a volunteer.”

When Annie started this journey, there was very little awareness about eating disorders, so she went to the state capitol every week for eight years to educate and advocate and ultimately pass four bills. Kat continues, “Thanks to the MO EDC, today, Missouri leads the nation in eating disorders awareness and increasing access to treatment. The love that my mom has poured into her activism has affected the lives of many. She continues to be a strong force of healing and justice in our community. She is wildly deserving of having her story heard!”

Yesss!! Annie, we see you, and we are incredibly grateful for you! Thank you for your perseverance and selflessness, paving the way to a better life for others.
