SHE GIVES SO MUCH OF HER TIME TO THIS GROUP OF AMAZING WOMEN, AND IT'S SO INSPIRING. SHE TRULY ENJOYS CONNECTING WITH PEOPLE AND GIVING THEM SPACE TO BE THEMSELVES.
Sonia lives in Los Angeles, California, and was nominated by longtime friend, Monique. Sonia created an inclusive, uplifting community of diverse mamas on Facebook called ‘VIP Mamas.’ She formed the group in 2018 to be a supportive, welcoming environment for moms and kids where they can foster new friendships, and it has grown to over 800 members. Monique says, “The last few years, Sonia has flourished in her service to the community of mothers in general. She engages us always and is very open and transparent about her personal life and struggles. She gives so much of her time to this group of amazing women, and it's so inspiring. She truly enjoys connecting with people and giving them space to be themselves.”
As the pandemic changed our norms, Sonia was not deterred. She pivoted and was able to continue engagements following the new guidelines. Monique says, “Even during COVID, she's managed to continue to hold the community together and adjust to the social distancing protocols and still create events to connect.”
Monique says she feels so fortunate to be part of this group of “women that are so fun and real, and I owe it to Sonia and her commitment to always look inward to heal and to continue to reach outward for support. It takes a special kind of human being to be this amazing, and I'm proud to call her my friend.”
