Join us in celebrating our newest Consuela Viva Babe—Soila!

Soila is a powerhouse of love, creativity, and resilience in the El Paso community. She’s a mother, artist, healer, and leader who pours her heart into caring for others and honoring her culture.

Nominated by her daughter Frida, Soila’s story moved us deeply.“My mom is the most selfless woman I know. She always puts everyone first. She’s taken in children, cared for our grandma, helped family in hospice, and still finds a way to be the best mom anyone could hope for.” She’s been there for everyone—through illness, heartbreak, and hardship—and shows up with remarkable strength and grace.

Soila finds her joy and healing in art. Known locally as the "Día de los Muertos lady," she creates beautiful altars for museums, teaches pottery workshops, and works on large-scale installations for the Mexican American Cultural Center, which opened this spring. “This is how I refill my cup,” she says. “I grew up around strong women who made beauty from what they had. Now, I do the same—with my hands, my heart, and my roots.”

One of her favorite sayings is "El ahorita es pequeño—The now is small." To Soila, every small act of kindness and love creates a forever impact.

The surprise Viva Babe celebration at home—complete with balloons, food, and family—caught her off guard. “I love to give, but I struggle to receive,” she said. “It was beautiful and so unexpected.”

Now, when she travels to Houston with her youngest daughter for medical treatments, she packs up her Brandy Jetsetter. “I love how these bags start conversations,” she smiled.

Soila, your legacy of care, creativity, and compassion inspires us. We honor you, your mother Magdalena, your Aunt Martha (Las 4 Lunas), and the generations of strength you carry forward.

You are a beautiful light in your family and community—Viva Babe forever!
