SHE GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND EACH DAY TO REACH THE UNREACHABLE, THE KIDS THAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS WRITTEN OFF AS A LOST CAUSE - SHE IS THEIR CHAMPION, AND SHE MAKES CONNECTIONS WITH THEM THAT LAST A LIFETIME.
Kim is a 9th grade English teacher in Cairo, Georgia, and was nominated by a fellow teacher, Austin. Austin says, “Kim is the teacher that makes students want to come to school. I have seen her overwhelming enthusiasm for learning trickle into every student she meets. She goes above and beyond each day to reach the unreachable, the kids that everyone else has written off as a lost cause - she is their champion, and she makes connections with them that last a lifetime. When others shake their heads at a student’s behavior, she takes the time to get to know them and understand what they are going through. When others say, ‘they can’t be helped’, she rises up and helps them. When others ignore them, she shows them that they are worthy and that they are enough.”
Kim creates a safe, collaborative classroom environment for her students, where every student is treated like her own child. She says, “They’re free to make any choice they want as long as they can live with the consequences. She tells her students, “I’m mirroring your mood. Give me your best and you’ll get my best.” And, Kim explains it is her job to teach the way they learn.
Kim, we heard your Consuelabration was full of happy tears and sprinkled with former students. You are loved! Thank you for being extraordinary!
