DON’T LET THE ROUGH SPOTS IN LIFE BRING YOU DOWN - MAKE A DIFFERENCE, EVEN IF IT’S ONLY FOR ONE PERSON OR HUNDREDS. DO EVERYTHING WITH LOVE. PLANT WITH LOVE. TEND WITH LOVE. HARVEST WITH LOVE. AND THEN, SHARE WITH LOVE.
Jenny lives in Bourg, Louisiana, and was nominated by her daughter, Chelsie. Chelsie says, “Every morning at 3:30 am, my mom woke up when the rooster crowed - except she doesn’t have any roosters. She has 30 chickens that she knows by name. She wakes up to feed “her girls,” as she calls them, followed by tending to her beautiful flourishing garden that occupies half of her backyard. From sunup to sundown, my mom worked in her garden.”

Her harvested produce numbers easily in the thousands weekly, and she gives it all away to the community. Chelsie says, “For her, the dollar is not the reward. No matter the amount of labor, her labor was always love. No one that knows her will ever be hungry - she shares. She cooks meals for the homebound, her neighbors, and her sisters.”

When Hurricane Ida devastated their town, Jenny pivoted to provide in other ways. Chelsie says, “Hurricane Ida completely wiped her garden out while also causing tremendous damage to her home, but, not just her home, everyone’s home. My mom orchestrated a home-based distribution point for bulk donations of supplies. Every day, a new truckload was delivered to her driveway. Her home was never too full for another load of supplies. No matter what it was, she took it, and she distributed it.”

“At 3:30 am, she was no longer waking up, but instead was going to bed, exhausted, after hand-bagging supplies for individuals that lost everything. With only a couple of hours of sleep, she ventures into the community, where she physically hands out supplies and food. In a time when her world was destroyed, her immediate reaction was to give to others.”

Jenny shares her message of positivity, “Don’t let the rough spots in life bring you down - make a difference, even if it’s only for one person or hundreds. Do everything with love. Plant with love. Tend with love. Harvest with love. And then, Share with love.“
