Heather has a heart for the homeless, needy, broken, neglected, and forgotten.
Heather founded Love and Light Ministries, a non-profit that serves the homeless community in Fort Worth, Texas, and helps local families get on back on their feet with basic needs. She was nominated by one of her volunteers, Christie, “Heather began working full-time with the homeless in 2010 while attending college to obtain her degree in drug and alcohol counseling. During that time, her volunteer efforts went from ten hours a week to forty-plus hours weekly. She felt a calling to front-line ministry working with people feeling broken. Those hidden in the woods, those not often seen. Her connection with people living with hopelessness and emotional trauma stemmed from her past which included several years of childhood abuse and neglect, parental drug and alcohol addiction, being a runaway teen; then her personal drug addiction, being in and out of jail ending with 4 felonies by 20 years old, homelessness and more.”
“Heather desires to walk life with them as a reliable friend. To remind them kindness and good in humanity still exist. To show them life is worth living. To speak truth into them while showing them that God does see and love them. And helping them connect with God and His abundant love for them!”
In her words from her website, Heather says, “I will not forget where I came from, though I don’t like to think back into the details. But because of where I have been, it allows me to love our homeless population with overwhelming depth and strength. I will love them where they are at. I will care for them. I will fight for them. I will try to be their voice. I will walk life with them vs passing off reference cards. The passion I have for them, and anyone in need that the Lord puts before me, is God-given and pulls from my history.” ✨
