Viva Babe Glenda bakes cakes to save lives!
Glenda started Kind House Ukraine Bakery (KHUB), a nonprofit in Amarillo, Texas, serving Ukrainians affected by war. Since 2014, Glenda has been baking out of her home to help the people of Ukraine. She left her job as an assistant principal two years ago to bake full time. Glenda and her team of 70 volunteers are saving Ukrainians from starvation, one cake at a time. Everything she bakes is for sale by donation only, and all the proceeds go to the people of Ukraine.
Her nominator Bond says, "Especially during this tumultuous time, I know she is making a HUGE difference. She is a local celebrity of sorts because of her humanitarian efforts. She took care of and lost her sister and mother, yet she serves selflessly to help others. She is beautiful, and she absolutely deserves this."
The community in Texas and Europe sends KHUB baking supplies and ingredients. 98% of the items baked at KHUB are baked from already donated ingredients.
KHUB has heated over 80 homes and saved hundreds of lives in Ukraine. Since February, KHUB's director in Ukraine, Dmitry, has led the operation where 6 to 7 men go out each day into eastern Ukraine to rescue Ukrainians and bring them to safer places. KHUB pays for humanitarian aid and hospital supplies that are sent to Kyiv and Dnipro, Ukraine.
In September, KHUB will move into a storefront.
