THERE’S NO TIME TO CRY. I AM A STRONGER PERSON BECAUSE OF MY ILLNESS.
Cindy is an Insurance Adjuster in San Antonio, TX, and was nominated by her sister, Kathy. As a single mom, working full-time and caring for her two children, Cindy fell ill inexplicably, eventually requiring oxygen at the age of 43. For four years she underwent numerous tests with no diagnosis. Finally, last year one of her 15 doctors noted something unusual in a blood test and determined she has Mitochondrial Syndrome, a genetic disorder that occurs when the mitochondria of the cell fail to produce enough energy for cell or organ function. Kathy shares, “so essentially my sister has been diagnosed with a terminal illness for which there is NO cure but only management of symptoms. My sister has come to terms with her mortality and continues to do as much as she can to help others.”

Cindy prioritizes helping and bringing joy to others. Even in the middle of her illness, Cindy cared for Kathy for almost a year when Kathy was hospitalized with a severe sickness. She would visit Kathy multiple times every day, before work, lunchtime, after work, and more. Kathy emphasizes the impact Cindy has on her life, "she is my ROCK, and If it weren't for her strength and faith, I wouldn't have had the will to live." Cindy also sprinkles kindness daily with customers and coworkers, she "continually helps her coworkers celebrate different milestones, and she gets up every day and pushes herself to help others.”

With resolve and a captivating smile, Cindy mentions, “There’s no time to cry. I am a stronger person because of my illness.”

We see you, Cindy. We are thankful for you and for all th
