Viva Babe Christy goes over and above to ensure the children of Frankfort, Kentucky, do not go hungry! Her community counts on her, and she consistently exceeds expectations.

Christy, the Nutrition and Food Service Director of a "small, low-income school district in Frankfort, Kentucky, works countless hours to ensure that the students of our district have free breakfast and lunch at school,” her nominator Denise says. “In addition, she and her staff make thousands of free take-home meals during breaks- including summer, COVID-related virtual learning, and the rare snow day.”

In fact, during the ice storm and emergency school closures this past spring, “Christy worked with her team to prepare free, frozen meals for take-home, and over 320 were picked up.” Denise says, “As a teacher at Frankfort High School, I know that my students can count on Christy to provide them with the fuel they need to grow and learn. I am so proud to call her a co-worker and a friend.”

Christy says she took on the role because she wanted kids to have a healthy meal that they would want to eat, giving them several healthy options to choose from and enticing them to try new things. 🥗💛 Christy says, “During COVID, I knew that some kids would not have two healthy meals, let alone one meal; most of our students' only healthy meals were at school. So, with the help of my staff, maintenance, and some custodians and bus drivers, we masked up and went door to door handing out meals, a smile, and sometimes a hug. When the kids saw us at the door, their faces lit up. It is called food service for a reason; it is to serve the students.”

A quote that inspires her, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members,” Coretta Scott King
