ANGELICA

NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK

I HAVE WITNESSED ANGELICA SPEND WEEKS ON A SINGLE CHILD'S CASE, TRYING TO GET THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES THE BEST SUPPORT IN OUR COMMUNITY. SHE IS SILLY, FUNNY, KIND, CARING, AND WHOLEHEARTEDLY COMMITTED TO MAKING EVERYONE'S LIFE BETTER.
Angelica is a middle school social worker in New Rochelle, New York, working at a school that serves primarily economically disadvantaged students, as well as many new arrivals from Central and South America who often arrive as unaccompanied minors. She was nominated by her friend and co-worker for the last 14 years, Karina. Karina says, "Angelica is not only an incredible wife and mom to her two daughters, but she is also a tireless advocate for our students and their families. She works hard to ensure that our non-English speaking parents have access to all of the information they need to help their children."

Angelica is resolute in finding solutions for her students and their families. Karina says, "She works to bring food pantries and health services to students who are food insecure and might not have access to medical care. I have witnessed Angelica spend weeks on a single child's case, trying to get them and their families the best support in our community. She is silly, funny, kind, caring, and wholeheartedly committed to making everyone's life better."

Angelica shares a quote that has inspired her since reading it in religion class in 1996.
"I don't know Who- or What- put the question, I don't know when it was put. I don't even remember answering. But at some moment I did answer Yes to Someone -or Something- and from that hour I was certain that existence is meaningful and that, therefore, my life, in self-surrender, had a goal." — Dag Hammarskjöld
